Bill McKibben
Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at 5:45PM In this EPTV Newsmaker Interview, Bill McKibben of 350.org, one of the world’s leading environmental activists, voices his concern that the Obama administration may approve the controversial Keystone pipeline right after Election Day in November. McKibben says that it’s already clear that young people, who in 2008 supported Obama primarily because of his environmental stance, probably won’t have the same fervor this time around.
In the interview McKibben challenges everyone who thinks that subsidizing green energy development violates the idea of a “free market.” He argues, forcefully, that if you honestly believe in free market capitalism, you should be demanding that the oil and gas industry pay to clean up its own waste.
McKibben sounds an optimistic note about the future, saying that he is “very confident” that the young people of today will stay committed to protecting and improving the environment.
