Magnetic Soap Could be Revolutionary New Way to Clean Up Oil Spills

British scientists reportedly have invented a “magnetic soap” that sops up oil that’s been spilled into water and then pulls that oil out of the water using magnets.

The key is that the soap material contains iron particles that interact with magnets. So after the soap cleans the water, the iron lets giant magnets scoop the oily goo out of the water.

Reuters has an excellent video that explains all this in the words of the Bristol University scientists in England who invented magnetized soap. You’ll find the Reutuers story here.
