At a College in Massachusetts, A Roof that’s Also a Sports Field

At Worcester Polytechnic Institute in the US state of Massachusetts, you’ll soon be able to play ball on the roof of a building.

The college is building a new parking structure at the top of which will be an athletic field suitable for soccer, field hockey, lacrosse and rugby.

We know what you’re thinking. Not to worry: the field will be surrounded by netting to make sure no ball – or ballplayer – falls off.

Up until now, the term “green roof” referred to a roof capable of producing renewable power from the sun, etc. Guess we’ll have to revise that definition.
