Increased Carbon Dioxide in Oceans is Driving Fish Nuts
This is probably going to sound funny, but even as you chuckle, think about we’re really saying here.
According to scientists, some fish are going nuts. Put another way, they’re acting really crazy.
It’s all because of increased levels of carbon dioxide in the ocean water that some fish call home. According to these scientists, increased levels of CO2 are messing around with the brains and central nervous systems of the fish. The nutsier they behave, the less likely they are to survive.
“We’ve found that elevated CO2 in the oceans can directly interfere with fish neurotransmitter functions, which poses a direct and previously unknown threat to sea life,” according to one of the scientists. Basically, the scientists are saying that a fish’s nerves are being overexcited by all the CO2.
Not good.
