ECO-FASHION & DESIGN

From the catwalks in New York and Paris to school auditoriums everywhere, a new fashion phenomenon is taking hold. Call it what you like – eco-fashion, recycled fashion, ethical fashion – it’s all about designing clothing that succeeds at recycling materials, conserving water, protecting endangered animal species, and more. And now the eco-craze is taking hold everywhere else, like in home, furniture and jewelry design. It’s a green, green, green, green life!

Students Recycle Junk into A Funky Fashion Show

Fifth-grader Tess Franscioni of Corral de Tierra models her outfit made from trash. When you get right down to it, what does it matter how much you paid for an outfit if it looks good on you and you feel good wearing it?

We offer as proof a “Junk2Funk” fashion show put on by middle school kids in California. As first reported by thecalifornian.com, this fashion show “turned garbage into glamour” as the kids became runway models for clothing they made from recycled garments.

One fifth-grade participant told The Californian’s reporter: “I think it’s important to use recycled fashion because we can reuse it and reuse it. We don’t have to go to the store to buy things. I made my hat out of cardboard!”

Check out The Californian’s story.

Got Old Clothes? Got Friends? Want to Have a Party? Then go Swishing!

Have you ever gone to a swishing party?

You may have and not even know it.

A swishing party is a party where everyone brings clothing that’s still in good shape that their owners have grown tired of wearing.

It’s like going to a store where the clothes don’t cost anything. You just swap stuff and go home with a brand new wardrobe.

Swishing was dreamed up by Futerra, a sustainability communications agency in Great Britain. “Swishing parties are for all those women who want to combine glamour, environmental protection and frugality,” according to the Swishing web site.
